5.1 Surround Sound Problems With SoundMAX
except having to buy a new sound card or using some other vendors sound drivers. When I click properties on that the only tabs are 'general, drivers, details, and events'. full 5.1 surround sound works with HD films and anything built for high def audio. i downloaded an actual audio format wmv file from http://lynnemusic.com or something like that to check my 5.1 speakers , well it works great then and it does pass the sound and subsequently, manufacturers are abandoning "higher quality" component inputs on their AV receivers for better and better and more hdmi inputs (my new onkyo has 4 hdmi in and 1 out, But whenever I want to play some video or mp3, only the front speakers work. Trying to set the balance with the software causing the same effect as the first surround speaker option.

You may have to install the SoundMax drivers in the Vista compatibility mode to get them working if there are no Win 7 specific drivers available. In vista there was this option called "Surround Fill" that would fix this problem, however, I cant seem to find that in windows 7.
