It did for me! This has now happened to all three of my Samsung Slimline harddrives They work fine a few months and then suddenly they dont want to be recognised. If your external hard drive is more than 2TB it is probably formatted in GPT instead of standard MBR, which cannot be read by 32bit Operating Systems such as WIndows XP. the flash disk is really old and cheap.
